A Specialist Plastic Surgeon is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) and registered with Australian Health Practitioners Regulatory Agency (AHPRA) as a Specialist in Plastic Surgery. A/Prof Magnusson is a member and past president of the Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) is a Plastic Surgeon with a practice in aesthetic or cosmetic surgery. Becoming a Specialist Plastic Surgeon takes 6-7 years at university and then another 10-12 years more training to become a Specialist Plastic Surgeon. Maintaining this knowledge is a life commitment. A/Prof Magnusson has an academic attachment to Griffith University for ongoing research and teaching.
His research and teaching commitments relate especially to breast implant surgery (collaborative research into BIA-ALCL, breast implant safety, achieving reliable outcomes and breast implant illness or BLL), body contouring and the anatomy of facial ageing as it applies to face lift surgery (instructor on the Melbourne Advanced Facial Anatomy Course or MAFAC) and nonsurgical rejuvenation (instructor on the ASAPs Anatomical Dissection and Cosmetic Procedures Workshop).
