Experience as a plastic surgeon and educator
A/Prof Magnusson has been a fully qualified Specialist Plastic Surgeon in Toowoomba since 2000 and on the Gold Coast since 2016. He has a practice focusing on surgery of the breast and body and facial rejuvenation/face lift.
- Ongoing contribution to plastic surgery education and research in Australia and Internationally
- Appointed Associate Professor for the School of Medicine and Dentistry at Griffith University
- Teaches facial anatomy to plastic surgeons for facelift surgery and aesthetic injectors for cosmetic facial injection
- Research into breast implant outcomes (breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL) and systemic symptoms associated with breast implants (SSBI)/breast implant illness (BII)), body contouring and facial rejuvenation with over 40 published peer reviewed scientific journal articles

A Specialist Plastic Surgeon is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) with Specialist Registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulatory Agency (AHPRA) in Plastic Surgery. A/Prof Magnusson is a member and past president of the Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) is a fully registered Specialist Plastic Surgeon with a practice in aesthetic or cosmetic surgery. Becoming a Specialist Plastic Surgeon takes 6-7 years at university and then an additional 10-12 years of training to become a Specialist Plastic Surgeon with assessment and exams along the way. Maintaining this knowledge is a life commitment. A/Prof Magnusson has an academic attachment to Griffith University recognising his ongoing research and teaching.
His research and teaching commitments relate especially to breast implant surgery, body-contouring surgery and facial rejuvenation (facelift and non-surgical). His research specifically involves collaborative and transformative research into BIA-ALCL, breast implant safety/outcomes and systemic symptoms associated with breast implants (SSBI)/breast implant illness (BII)), body contouring and the anatomy of facial ageing as it applies to face lift surgery and nonsurgical rejuvenation.
