1. Past President of the Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS).
1.After 6 years on the board of ASAPS primarily arranging the educational activities of the Society, Dr Magnusson was honoured as the President of the Society at the annual meeting on the Gold Coast in 2016 for a term of 2 years. This recognition by his peers is a reflection upon his commitment to excellence in plastic surgery, patient safety and education.
2. Educator
As the Chairman of Education for the Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS) from 2013 until 2016 Dr Magnusson was responsible for coordinating aesthetic education for plastic surgeons in Australia and New Zealand over many years. He has convened the Annual ASAPS Conference on Cosmetic Surgery as well as the largest annual Australasian conference on nonsurgical rejuvenation techniques, The Non-Surgical Symposium.
3. Anatomist.
Dr Magnusson is an anatomy tutor teaching facelift anatomy to plastic surgeons and injectable anatomy to doctors and nurses since 2011. He is a tutor on the mendelson Advanced Facial Anatomy Course (MAFAC) teaching anatomy for safe facelift surgery to Plastic Surgeons. The course is held over 2 days and Dr Magnusson has been involved with the course in Australia since 2013 as well as in the United States since 2014. He also initially convened and now still teaches on an Anatomy Workshop for non-surgical injectable facial treatments to Plastic Surgeons, Dermatologists, cosmetic doctors and nurses since 2012.
4. Respected key opinion leader
Dr Magnusson is one of the International Editorial Board Members of the prestigious Aesthetic Surgery Journal (ASJ) which is the official journal of the The Aesthetic Society in the US. He is the Aesthetic Section Editor for the Australasian Journal of Plastic Surgery (AJOPS). He is also regularly asked to perform scientific reviews for other Plastic Surgery and Dermatology Journals including the Journal of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (JPRAS) and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery – Global Open (PRS-GO). He has published more than 40 peer reviewed scientific papers, contributed to text book chapters and been invited to provide published book reviews and commentary on various plastic surgery hot topics. He collaborates with colleagues in Australia and Internationally in Europe, Asia and America contributing to transformational research (BIA-ALCL and textured implant regulation, functional benefits of abdominoplasty contributing to the return of item numbers for abdominoplasty).
5. Key opinion leader for Government Regulators (TGA BIEWG) and Industry.
(Advisory Board Member and Educator on Breast Implants and Medical Aesthetics for Allergan and Mentor (J&J) as well as Media. Dr Magnusson serves on expert committees for the Department of Health (the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) on breast implant surgery and in particular Breast Implant-Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma BIA-ASLCL) and Systemic Symptoms associated with Breast Implants (SSBI)
6. International speaker.
Dr Magnusson has been invited onto faculty for numerous national and international Scientific Plastic Surgery and Non-Surgical Meetings. At these meetings he moderates expert discussion and delivers presentations more than 10 times on average each year on global hot topics, patient safety, improving outcomes and controversial issues in plastic surgery.
