1. Past President of the Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS).
After 6 years on the board of ASAPS primarily arranging the educational activities of the Society Dr Magnusson was honoured as the President of the Society at the annual meeting on the Gold Coast in 2016 for a term of 2 years. This recognition by his peers is a reflection upon his commitment to excellence in plastic surgery, patient safety and education.
As the Chairman of Education for the Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS) from 2013 until 2016 Dr Magnusson has been responsible for coordinating aesthetic education for plastic surgeons in Australia and New Zealand over many years. He has convened the Annual ASAPS Conference on Cosmetic Surgery as well as the largest annual Australasian conference on nonsurgical rejuvenation techniques, The Non-Surgical Symposium.
Dr Magnusson is an anatomy tutor and has been involved in courses teaching on courses on facelift surgery and facial rejuvenation since 2011. He is a tutor on the Melbourne Advanced Facial Anatomy Course (MAFAC) teaching safety in the facelift surgery to Plastic Surgeons. The course is held over 2 days and Dr Magnusson has been involved with the course in Australia since 2013 as well as in the United States since 2014. He also runs an Anatomy Workshop for Plastic Surgeons, Dermatologists, cosmetic Doctors and nurses on safety during non-surgical rejuvenation techniques from 2012.
4. Respected key opinion leader
Dr Magnusson is one of only 2 plastic surgeons on the Editorial Board of the prestigious Aesthetic Surgery Journal (ASJ) which is the official journal of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery of which he is a member. He is also the Aesthetic Section Editor for the Australasian Journal of Plastic Surgery (AJOPS). In addition he regularly performs scientific reviews for other Journals including the Journal of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (JPRAS) and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery – Global Open (PRS-GO). In addition he has published multiple scientific papers, contributed to text book chapters and been invited to provide published book reviews and commentary on various plastic surgery topics. He collaborates with colleagues in Australia and Internationally in Europe, Asia and America contributing to leading edge research.
5. Key opinion leader for Government, Regulators, Media and Industry.
Dr Magnusson has served on expert committees for the Department of Health, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and with Industry on breast implant surgery and in particular Breast Implant Associated-Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma. He serves on committees and moderates expert panels on this topic. His opinion is sought on a regular basis on a wide variety of plastic surgery topics by media outlets and industry.
6. International speaker.
Dr Magnusson is invited faculty to numerous national and international Scientific Plastic Surgery Meetings each year. At these meetings he moderates expert discussion and delivers presentations more than 10 times on average each year on global hot topics, patient safety, improving outcomes and controversial issues in plastic surgery.
